upconverting dvd player review

Do I regret to replace the CRT with a widescreen LCD or Plasma?

Currently I have a Sony Wega KV-30HS510 CRT widescreen TV. Me love the picture, but it weighs a ton, and she and my entertainment center has to sit away from the wall, because it is very large. DVDs look great on it, and specifications the state that has a 1080i display. http://reviews.cnet.com/1707-6481_7-2088 … I'm thinking of getting an LCD or plasma. However, I heard that regular DVD's and do not look to well done. If I'm doing a good picture with a CRT monitor with a display of 1080i to 480p and 480i sources, not the image on a 1080p LCD or Plasma 1080i or equal good? I'm using a standard progressive scan DVD player (no upscaling model). I need a clarification from someone with some knowledge good video!

I can not think of a CRT have advantage over LCD and plasmas when displaying several different resolutions – shows a different CRT resolutions, matching horizontal and vertical scanning to the source. It does everything that does not scale, does the equivalent of upconverting and downconverting simply changing the H / V exploration fill the screen. An analog CRT smooth interpolation pixel to pixel (horizontal, anyway) because there are no pixels – one way continuous analog wave! CRT is the resolution limit of dot pitch (distance between dots of the same color) but that is usually (not always) finer than the higher resolution of the circuit is capable of scanning. In addition, the video circuitry can soften the image if you do not have the bandwidth. LCD screens plasma, a fixed grid of discrete pixels, and can actually display only a resolution that calls the original resolution. All other resolutions must scale up or down to the native resolution to fit the screen. In upconversion, if no data of a pixel, which has to be interpolated (or worse, simply duplicate) of other data that is there. A crappy upconversion SD will look worse on a giant screen. A better SD upconversion will look better (of course can not be HD). A lot of DVD players these days have built in upconversion, but that is really only upconversion function of television movement for DVD player – which looks better depends on the device goes to make the best upconversion. The progressive scan support, especially with fast motion video (progressive and interlaced will be the same for a fixed image).
