I’ve got a 5.1 home theater setup. Will a “Stereo’ blu-ray player only play two channels, or am i confused?
Current Setup:
1000 Watt 5.1 Samsung System with built-in “upscale” DVD player
I want to purchase a Blu-Ray player, but I’m confused because all the ones I’m finding are either [Stereo Out] or they’re the Blu-Ray version of the receiver that I currently have, speakers included.
Will the stereo out ones (80-100 bucks) produce 5.1 sound, correctly, or must I shell out the higher cost for the receiver with a built-in Blu-Ray ?
Thanks for the heads-up
Take a close look at all the outputs in the back of the blu-ray players. Any of the following outputs will output 5.1 surround. But be sure your Samsung system has a matching input to receive the audio signal.
1. HDMI – Small and flat, looks like a computer USB port but with two notched corners. (note this carries *both* audio and video – the other two carry only audio)
2. Digital Coaxial – Round, just like the red/white stereo jacks but colored either orange or black.
3. Digital Optical – Small and square-ish with a push flap.
